About

Cristin Stephens is an Austin-based writer/director/producer from Philly. Her films bridge the comedic, off-putting and sentimental, and center protagonists and communities she loves. Cristin's work has screened at festivals including San Francisco International Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Shorts México, where she received special jury mention for short doc MEN WHO TALK. She is currently touring her short film BLACK MAGIC, which was nominated for the Enderby Entertainment Award at the 2023 Austin Film Festival. She was named a top screenwriter to watch in 2024 by Austin Film Festival and MovieMaker magazine. Cristin lectures at the University of Texas at Austin as well as the School of the New York Times. She holds a BA in English Lit from the University of Rochester, an MSEd from the UPENN Grad School of Education, and an MFA in Film Production from UT Austin. She is a proud member of the Beautiful Project and Brown Girls Doc Mafia.
