About

Daniel A. Nelson is a documentary filmmaker based in New York City. He recently finished work as a cinematographer on Oscar-nominated director David France's feature-length documentary HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC (HBO 2022) about the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. Before that, he co-directed and DP'd a feature-length film called AND SO I STAYED (2021) about survivors of abuse fighting for their lives and spending years behind bars. Daniel also worked with France as a cinematographer and researcher on THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON (Netflix 2017) about the suspicious death of trans icon Marsha P. Johnson. He received his master's from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in documentary filmmaking in 2016. His thesis at Columbia was a short documentary called POSTURE about the controversial world of competitive yoga.
