Documentary Journalism Summit: join us
Hey all, we're excited to announce a new program that will explore the intersection of documentary and journalism — the Documentary Journalism Summit, presented in collaboration with the IDA. 👈 Apply to apply to join and see the line-up thus far.
And, to note: per the IDA's renewed management issues, we want to be extremely transparent and offer a contextual statement about how this summit came to life and why we're still excited about putting it on:
The ever-present goal of the Video Consortium is to make the art, practice, and profession of nonfiction video storytelling accessible and welcoming for filmmakers everywhere. We, VC, firmly believe in worker’s rights and in honorable, equitable hiring practices; we stand behind the power of collective bargaining.
We are aware that there is a community concern about employment practices at IDA, but we still believe it is important that this Summit — which grew organically from conversations between Keisha Knight, Sky Dylan-Robbins, and Abby Sun over the past five months — moves forward. We have worked hard to put together a stellar line-up of brilliant filmmakers, journalists, and industry stakeholders to help drive our beloved medium towards a better future, both for nonfiction filmmakers and for the audiences we serve. This program is well positioned to offer vital tools, much-needed community conversations, and practical advice for YOU: talented creators fighting for worthy stories that need to be told. We’re excited to bring it to life and look forward to sharing space and insight with you all.
As always, we're here for any questions or thoughts. Look forward to discussing these big ideas and to moving our medium to new heights, together. 🖤
