About

Salman Syed is a Pakistani-Muslim American film editor based in Los Angeles. He holds an M.F.A. in film editing from the American Film Institute and a B.A. in Film Production from Cal State University Northridge. His recent work includes the Magic Johnson docuseries THEY CALL ME MAGIC on Apple TV+ , SINS OF THE AMISH on Peacock, and HILLSONG: A MEGACHURCH EXPOSED on Discovery+. He was also an assistant editor on season 3 of the Seth MacFarlane Sci-Fi dramedy THE ORVILLE for FOX/Hulu. Other notable works are the Netflix docuseries DIAGNOSIS, FLINT TOWN, and INSIDE BILL'S BRAIN: DECODING BILL GATES. He got his start in the industry back in 2007, working nights as an assistant editor on a reality TV show while still studying at CSUN. The early part of Salman's professional career was spent assistant editing on various reality and unscripted TV programs, while editing everything from short films and music videos to web series and comedy sketches on the side. He discovered his love of filmmaking and editing during his time at Palos Verdes High School, and helped start "Live From 205," one of the top high school broadcast programs in the country since 2005. The work can be hard and the hours long, but for Salman there's nothing like the alchemy of putting images and moments together to help tell the story, and guide the audiences emotions from fade in to fade out. In his free time Salman enjoys watching sports and rooting for his hometown teams, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
