About

Laura Martin is an Editor and Producer currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally from the Boston area, she graduated from Emerson College in 2014 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Film Production, and a concentration in Editing. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2014, Laura has worked on a number of projects - from podcasts to short documentaries to animated short films - and with a wide range of companies, clients, and brands, including Disney, AppleTV+, YouTube Originals, the ACLU, Zappos, Airtable, and more. She’s spent the majority of her career thus far working for actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s production company HITRECORD, and while there, developed a deep passion for documentary filmmaking. In 2020, she produced and edited a short documentary about a young woman in Syria who led a movement to normalize women’s use of bicycles in war-torn Damascus, during a time when alternative transportation proved nearly impossible. During the same year, Laura also worked with the ACLU to create and release a series of videos on their social platforms, informing U.S. voters of their voting rights leading up to the 2020 presidential election. In 2022, Laura worked with Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives and its founder, Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., the great-great-great-grandson of Frederick Douglass, to create a short film inspired by an excerpt from Frederick Douglass’ famous speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” And in 2023, she created a short documentary for GLBTQ+ Legal Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) of Boston. The piece was intended to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the landmark Goodridge v. Department of Public Health case that legalized same-sex marriage in Massachusetts, and features footage of, and firsthand testimony from, the 14 Goodridge plaintiffs. It premiered at the 24th Annual Spirit of Justice Award Dinner in Boston. Laura is most inspired by projects that tackle the gray areas of complex issues, seek to promote social or political change, or tell the stories of those whose voices often go unheard. In her free time, she enjoys kickboxing, traveling, and standup comedy. She’s dabbled in standup, improv at Second City, been skydiving, and is on a mission to visit all 50 states.
