About
Joe is a documentary cinematographer, filmmaker, and photographer. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he is currently based between Salt Lake City and New York.
Raised between Wyoming, Washington, and Alaska, the American West is where he draws most of his inspiration. After spending nearly a decade on the east coast of the USA and three years based in East Africa, he returned to the West. Through his documentary work and projects with various brands, Joe seeks to tell impactful, character-driven stories about rural America and the issues faced by it’s communities.
He has been behind the camera for multiple documentary films including HBO’s The Last Cruise, Matthew Heinemann’s recent film for Nat Geo The First Wave, Pyne Point and The Passengers. He is a regular cinematographer with MeatEater and recently he has worked on projects for Nat Geo Docs, Hulu, HBO Documentaries, The New York Times, VICE, and more.
His experience spans from branded production to non-fiction television, to documentary news and film. He has worked both domestically and internationally, recently working abroad in India, Philippines, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Somalia.
