Heather MacDonald is a playwright and documentary film producer/writer. In 2023, she received a Best Documentary, Science & Technology Emmy Award nomination for Augmented (NOVA/PBS), about MIT professor Hugh Herr, a double-amputee who developed the first brain-controlled robotic prosthetic. Heather co-wrote the Emmy Award-winning and Sundance Audience Award-winning documentary Jim: The James Foley Story (HBO) about her childhood friend Jim who was murdered by ISIS in 2014. Her work on the film earned her a Humanitas Prize for Documentary Writing. Heather is a two-time MacDowell Fellow and her plays have been produced and developed at theaters throughout New York. She lives in Greater Boston, Massachusetts.
