About

Dave Kalema is a Ugandan-American documentary filmmaker and editor who focuses on stories of belonging, identity, and personal transformation. He got his start as the founder of Coin Flyp Media, a video-first media company for the untold, personal stories of change that athletes experience after sports. Dave has filmed Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers as well as former NBA, NFL, Olympic, and college athletes. He has also filmed artists at various institutions including New York’s famed 92nd Street Y. In 2021, Dave was chosen for Video Consortium’s Sony Mentorship Program, an initiative for 16 emerging filmmakers to develop projects with professional support. In 2024, Dave was selected by the Handy Foundation to participate in their Assistant Editor Training Program. He currently works as an Editorial Resident and Assistant Editor at Library Films, a premium documentary company known for projects like Bad Vegan (Netflix), Tiger King (Netflix), Skywalkers (Netflix), and 100 Foot Wave (HBO). Dave is also a 2x StorySlam Champion, GrandSlam Champion and Mainstage speaker for The Moth. His storytelling has been featured on NPR’s The Pulse and he’s performed all over the New York City and Philadelphia areas.
