My enthusiasm for documentary ignited when I was the co-director of a NATAS award-winning film, Bart Jadeed: Seeking Home, which narrates the search for home from the perspective of refugees and receiving communities both in Germany and in Minnesota.

About

Danica Simonet is a versatile, multi-talented filmmaker and journalist. Before igniting her journalism career, Simonet served as the Director of Development for a non-profit founded to provide holistic services for women to rebuild their lives after leaving the harrowing life of sex-trafficking. Simonet's work aims to humanize complex socio-political issues with the ultimate goal of fostering empathy. While earning her master's at UC-Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, Simonet pitched, reported, filmed, and edited character-driven films surrounding timely issues in the Bay Area, including untimely mental healthcare, the uncertain fate of Oakland's largest homeless encampment, a community's reckoning with a fatal High School stabbing, and the less-known barrier keeping women in domestic violence situations from seeking safety -- their furry friends.
