The global total of AC units is expected to reach 5.6 billion by 2050, and the grid may demand substantial advances in efficiency and sustainability to accommodate the explosion. Blue Frontier also recently scored a $20 million round led by Bill Gates' investment fund, Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

The walls are structural, meet all the building codes that protect communities from rising sea levels, and have an environmental component because they host biodiversity and sea life which makes them function like artificial reefs, explained Kind Designs founder Anya Freeman. “And so for us to start here is really important because we're solving a true Florida problem, and we have a Florida team, and we have a warehouse in Miami, and that means a lot to us,” she added.
