Juan is a Colombian anthropologist, journalist, and film critic.
His academic research focuses on black representation in Colombian television and the persistence of racism through blackface. Passionate about cinema, he has written about film and television for media outlets in Colombia and Mexico. He was a member of the jury for the Radionica's Youth Award at the 8th Bogota International Film Festival (BIFF). As a journalist, he worked as a producer for the 10th episode of the 11th season of Radio Ambulante, the first Spanish-language podcast from NPR.
He's developing his first documentary short film, centering on a personal story about unpaid family caregivers in Colombia.
