About

Christy Denes (pronounced “Dennis”) is an editor with 20 years' experience cutting documentary and unscripted programming for Netflix, Paramount, PBS, Amazon, Starz, the History Channel, CNN, Lifetime, Discovery, Oxygen, Spotify, and independent producers. Christy has a fine arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design, where she majored in Photography and ended up working primarily in video. Thus, she approaches editing first and foremost from a visually creative standpoint. She also has a background in dance which has left her with a great ear for music and sense of rhythm. Her strengths are story and substance, and creating a seamless arc from the often chaotic and unpredictable footage that comes back from the field or archives. Christy is also one of the founding members of the Alliance of Documentary Editors (ADE), a working group that campaigns for best practices within the industry while improving members’ career sustainability. The ADE promotes a better understanding and acknowledgement of the documentary editor’s unique position as storyteller, writer, and artist, as well as technician. We advocate for better working conditions and codified ethical standards, and champion diversity, inclusivity, and mentorship in documentary post-production. In 2019, Christy partnered with director/producer Leslie Thomas and editor Matt Jacob to form the production company MIRA Studio. Their first feature documentary is currently in post-production.
